Ministry of Defence Statement of New Regulation

The Government is committed to producing twice yearly statements on new regulations that impact business and organisations. Each Government Department produces a Statement of New Regulation in respect of its new regulatory measures within the scope of One-in, One-out. The Statement contains a short description of each measure, the date or expected date of implementation and a link to the latest available impact assessment. The Better Regulation Unit in BIS publishes the overall Government Statement. Two statements have been published to date: the first in April 2011 and the second in September 2011.

This summarises the regulatory measures introduced by the Ministry of Defence between January and June 2012.

Impact Assessment Number MOD 0002

Title of the Measure: Section 28 (call out of reserve forces) of the Armed Forces Act 2011.

Purpose of the Measure: To amend section 56 (call out for certain operations) of the Reserve Forces Act 1996 by extending the Secretary of State's power to call out members of the reserve forces to where the Defence Council have authorised the use of members of the armed forces for urgent work of national importance.

Date the Measure came into force: 3 January 2012.

Equivalent Annual Net Cost to Business

This is a regulatory measure that will impose a net cost to business but, given the exceptional nature of the circumstances in which these costs may arise, it has been classified as an 'IN' where the Equivalent Annual Net Cost to Business cannot be realistically scored.
