New arrangements for delivering HR in Defence

With effect from April 2006 there is a new structure for delivering HR in Defence.

Corporate HR: based in London - adding value by helping MOD (through the Defence Management Board) to meet its business needs in support of Defence outputs. It will be responsible for identifying the Department's future skill requirements, and for developing plans to ensure that we have the right people with the right skills in the right place at the right time. It will also set corporate HR policies and centrally manage the MOD's Senior Civil Servants and the various development schemes.

Skills Champions: the 19 Skills Champions - who head up "job families" identified within the MOD - will be responsible for providing a strategic HR focus for their particular discipline. Working closely with Corporate HR and others, they will help produce the Department's skills strategy and influence the future direction of HR.

DBS Civilian HR: based in Bath and Cheadle Hulme - providing a one-stop-shop for all HR services to individuals and managers. Whether on-line or off-line DBS Civilian HR will provide individuals and the Department with a consistent and timely HR service. The DBS Civilian HR is also responsible for the Department's Occupational Welfare Service.
