How We Work

All of us in the DBS Civilian HR will:

  • Keep honing and learning new skills, confirming that they are helping to improve our performance.
  • Know about the wider context of people policies into which our work fits.
  • Know what our role might be in unexpected events or emergencies.
  • Make sure we share our knowledge, ideas and experience.
  • Follow the documented processes and if we don’t know, ask.
  • Make full use of the Agency’s technology and information.

Our managers will:


  • Work with managers across the Agency to deliver a joined up service.
  • Keep abreast of what’s going on in their line of business in the wider world.
  • Review and streamline our processes: identify and mitigate our risks.
  • Communicate - listen as well as broadcast.

The Board will:

  • Be visible and accessible in the Agency and beyond
  • Use external measures (ISO standards, surveys) to prove our quality.
  • Provide and continuously review a framework of strategies, policies, plans and controls for effective management and continuity of the business.
