Army Medical Services (AMS)

The Army Medical Services (AMS) contribute to the fighting strength and morale of the Army.

It is headed by the Director General Army Medical Services (DGAMS) whose role is to promote the effective medical, dental and veterinary services for the Army and provide a policy focus for individual medical training, doctrine, force deployment. 

Members of the Army Medical Services provide the largest numbers of staff to the Defence Medical Services and run the majority of field hospital deployments, which is a key capability of the Defence Medical Services.

The Army Medical Services consist of:

  • Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC)
  • Royal Army Veterinary Corps (RAVC)
  • Royal Army Dental Corps (RADC)
  • Queen Alexandra's Royal Army Nursing Corp (QARANC)

The current DGAMS is Major General Mike von Bertele.
