Submarine Dismantling Project - Stakeholder Groups

Key stakeholder groups were created to progress the project and provide vehicles for ongoing engagement with stakeholders.

Royal Navy Nuclear Submarine

These groups are made up of representatives from the MOD, other Government Departments, Devolved Administrations, local government, the nuclear industry, the regulators, academics, independent specialists and non-governmental organisations with an interest in submarine disposal.

SDP Advisory Group

The SDP Advisory Group (AG) was set up in 2007 and meets at regular intervals to offer independent constructive challenge and advice to the project team. The AG operates at national level and is made up of a cross section of individuals from industry, professional bodies, specialist professions, academic institutions, Non Government Organisations (NGOs) and Community Based Organisations (CBOs).

Members of the public are welcome to attend the SDP AG meetings which are held at different venues around the country. The agenda and location are published on the website one month in advance of the meeting.
Minutes from the meetings are uploaded to this website after they have been agreed by members (see Related Pages).

SDP Advisory Group Consultation Sub-Group and SEA Sub-Group

The SDP AG has formed two sub-groups on SEA and public consultation which do not meet in public but which do report back to the AG on their work. These enable a smaller number of specialist AG members to have more detailed and frequent engagement with the project team, including preview and review of key documents.

SDP Steering Group

The SDP Steering Group (SG) is chaired by the SDP Project Director with the purpose of informing the governance of the project. Membership is drawn from a similar range of stakeholders as the Advisory Group. Unlike the AG, SG meetings are not open to the public but the minutes of meetings are uploaded to this website after they have been agreed by members (see Related Pages). The SG last met in 2009 and now meets on an extraordinary basis only.

Local Liaison Committees

The project also uses established stakeholder groups to engage with individuals and groups who are interested in the project. It has briefed the existing Local Liaison Committees at Rosyth and Devonport.
