In-Service Submarines
Responsible for all in-service submarines (Trafalgar and Vanguard classes) and supporting the introduction of new submarines into service.
Vision
'Delivering submarines fit to fight'
Our role
The In-Service Submarines team is responsible for the material safety, availability and capability of the in-service submarine flotilla. It does this through providing guidance and advice to Royal Navy operators enabling them to use the submarine to its maximum capability, and specifying and managing the maintenance required to keep the submarine at sea.
The team contracts and oversees the repairs and upgrades carried out by Babcock Marine at Devonport and Faslane.
The team is also responsible for decommissioning and disposal of all submarines and for the provision of a submarine rescue service.
Through all of these activities, the In-Service Submarines team ensures that the Royal Navy has the optimum level of submarines available for operational tasking at any one time, in support of the UK's strategic deterrent and current operations.
