The Scout SV team forms part of the Combat Tracks Group within Director Land Equipment.
The Scout SV programme will deliver ‘game changing reconnaissance’ for the British Army, with a new fleet of armoured fighting vehicles. Scout SV will provide a manned recce, and ISTAR capability that is persistent in all weathers and across a variety of terrains. The vehicles have been designed with high levels of protection, mobility and ergonomics (crew comfort).
The capability will be delivered incrementally in three blocks of vehicles. All vehicles will utilise a common base platform: a base vehicle onto which sub-systems can be integrated to meet the various SV roles. Scout SV is based on a modified version of ASCOD, a vehicle already in service with Spain and Austria.
The first increment, Recce Block 1 is currently in its Demonstration Phase following Main Gate approval and the appointment of General Dynamics UK as Prime Contractor in June 2010. Recce Block 1 is comprised of four variants: Scout, Recce Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC), Recovery, and Repair. These vehicles are the replacements for Scimitar, Spartan and Samson.
Scout SV Recce Block 1– A series of trials and tests have been conducted, including mine blast, electronic architecture demonstrators and the firing of the first cannon integrated into a Scout turret (achieved five months ahead of schedule).
Further test and trials will be conducted before the preliminary design review, a major milestone prior to the vehicle prototypes being manufactured.
SV Recce Block 2 and 3 – Work is underway to progress these increments to their Demonstration Phase through the Department’s decision making process,.
Cased Telescope Cannon & Ammunition (CTCA) - Is a cooperative programme between the MOD and its French equivalent (DGA). The programme will deliver a new and innovative 40mm cannon to equip the Scout vehicle and the upgraded Warrior. CTCA is provided by Cased Telescoped Ammunition International (CTAi), a joint UK-French company. The cannon and ammunition is undergoing a qualification programme to ensure that it is safe, reliable and effective for use in the British and French Armies.
