Tactical Data Links (TDL) Team

The team delivers Tactical Data Link capability to the UK Armed Services.

Tactical Data Links (TDL) play an important international role and are the prime means of exchanging information between NATO platforms. The Tactical Data Links team provides TDL capability for sea, air and land branches of the UK Armed Forces. It ensures coherence and interoperability of all delivered TDL capability, allowing effective network planning, management, analysis and platform implementation. It maintains the performance of all delivered TDL systems and influences policy development and application.

The Tactical Data Links (TDL) team is sited across three locations, Abbey Wood, Portsmouth and RAF Waddington. There remains a strong connection with our international partners, both industry and government communities, to maximise the interoperability of our armed forces.

Current Equipment

The Tactical Data Links Team manages programmes associated with the provision and support of:
  • Link 16, Link 11, Link 22
  • Frequency Clearance Monitoring Systems
  • Blue Force Tracking
  • Terminal support
  • Interoperability testing facilities
  • Research projects associated with combat identification
  • Provision and distribution of the tactical picture in theatre ground environment
  • Standardisation of ISTAR Datalinks
