Defence Equipment and Support

Chemical Biological Radiological & Nuclear Protection (CBRN) Team

The CBRN Team delivers and supports CBRN capabilities to provide effective force protection, enabling the UK Armed Forces to successfully conduct operations.

The CBRN Team is responsible for a wide range of capabilities, from detection, identification and monitoring, to individual protective equipment and collective protection, to decontamination of personnel and large equipment. The projects cover a wide range of advanced technologies, many of which are at the forefront of global military capability.

Integrated Biological Detection System Biological Warfare Agent point detection and identification system. Prime Contractor is Lockheed Martin UK Insys Ltd with Smiths Detection Watford and EDS as key sub-contractors. Chemical Agent Detection Manportable

Chemical Agent Detector and Lightweight Chemical Agent Detector form the elements of the two-tier detection system.

Tactical Radiation Monitoring Equipment A suite of nuclear detection instruments providing degrees of capability from basic alarm to identification of source type.

Chemical and Nuclear Reconnaissance System Capability to quickly determine clean or CRN contaminated areas of an airfield (or other area of terrain). An appliqué system for fitting to Land Rovers.

ADM Series Radiation Detection and Monitoring Equipment In-Service Radiation Detection and Monitoring Equipment (RDME). The ADM series of RDME is the main stay of the maritime operational, health and safety and nuclear accident response equipment.

Ships Installed Chemical system Detectors are fully automatic, provide generic identification and require minimal maintenance

Ships Installed RADIAC System In-service ships installed radiation detection.

General Service Respirator New capability introduced in 2010 to replace the in-service respirator. The GSR provides enhanced levels of protection and equipment compatibility, with reduced physiological and psychological burden.

Light Role Team (LRT) The LRT programme provides a rapidly deployable, expeditionary, specialist, CBRN advice, detection, identification and monitoring capability. Manned by the Joint CBRN Regiment, the LRT capability consists of specialist personnel with dedicated vehicles and Reachout communications with a mixture of commercial off-the-shelf, modified off-the-shelf and Government Furnished equipment.
