The UK Air Surveillance Command and Control System provides early detection of and controls the response to air vehicles representing a potential threat or meriting special interest in the airspace around the UK.

The Tactical Air Control Centre provides a similar, but scaled-down, capability in deployed environments.

The Planning Tasking and Monitoring of Execution system provides the Joint Forces Air Component Headquarters with the ability to plan and task air missions.

The GUARDIAN project, which is currently in the concept phase, is looking at providing enhanced functionality including extensive interoperability with NATO.

Air Traffic Control

Much of the equipment that supports military air traffic control will reach the end of its life in the next decade. The MARSHALL project will provide cost-effective replacements at a large number of MOD-operated airbases and training ranges, both within the UK and overseas. The project is currently in the assessment phase.
