To provide through-life support for our aircraft and equipment ensuring that they are safe, airworthy, and capable of meeting agreed customer requirements. Deliver new and replacement capabilities coherently within performance, cost and time constraints.

Our role

Special Projects Multi-Air Platforms (SP MAP) is responsible for the airworthiness of more than 100 airframes of some 23 Type/Mark variants on operations, in three front line commands, in training establishments and overseas garrisons such as Belize and Brunei.

With fixed and rotary wing platforms in its inventory, the Project Team provides comprehensive logistics support throughout the equipments’ service through to disposal, in the form of:


  • Engineering support and safety management
  • The procurement and management of spares
  • Project management for the acquisition of Military Registered Commercially Operated aircraft



What we do

With Civil Contractors and the Civil Aviation Authority the team provides contractual management and continuing airworthiness management activity for our Military Registered Civil Owned aircraft. The team also acquires and subsequently modifies fixed and rotary wing platforms.

Special Projects Multi-Air Platforms (SP MAP) team is also responsible for all military Helicopter Under-Slung Load Equipment (HUSLE), which includes a range of strops, slings, nets and ancillary equipment used to suspend loads below helicopters or deliver troops to the ground. HUSLE is used by more than 1,500 units in the Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Air Force.

The Project Team is the Engineering Authority for both the Royal Navy Historic Flight at RNAS Yeovilton and Army Historic Aircraft Flight at the School of Army Aviation Middle Wallop.
