The Chinook Project Team's primary responsibility is providing logistic support and managing capability upgrades to the UK fleet of Chinook Mk2, Mk2A and Mk3 aircraft.

The team is also responsible for the through-life management of support and capability throughout the in-service life of the aircraft, including project management of major enhancements and the purchase of additional aircraft.

The Chinook Project Team is charged with meeting the front line's requirements in terms of aircraft availability and supporting the annual flying task. This includes managing all Depth Maintenance for the aircraft and major components. It also means delivering this support as efficiently as possible to ensure best possible use of the available funding.

The UK Chinook fleet is based at RAF Odiham, although a number of aircraft are routinely deployed on exercises and operations. The Chinook force is under the command of the Joint Helicopter Command, which in turn forms part of Land Command.

A programme is underway to extend the in-service life of the UK Chinook fleet to 2040.
