The Apache helicopters were built under license by AgustaWestland (AW) from Boeing. The continuing role of the Apache project team is to deliver through life capability for the Attack Helicopter to the front line for the life of the equipment in service.
There is a programme of work underway on the Apache helicopter to replace the currently fitted Target Acquisition Designation Sight/Pilot Night Vision Sensor (TADS/PNVS), with the device known collectively as Modernised TADS (M-TADS). The M-TADS is to be fitted to all 67 UK Apache AH Mk1 helicopters over a two-year period, starting in February 2009.
The Apache Project Team employs staff, both military and civilian, mostly located in three main locations. The bulk of the team is based at the site of its Prime Contractor, AgustaWestland, in Yeovil, with elements at DE&S HQ, Abbey Wood, and the Depth Support Unit at Wattisham, as well as other locations.
