Salvage and Marine Operations Team

The Salvage and Marine Operations Team provides the MOD with worldwide marine salvage, safe moorings, towing and heavy lift expertise.

Salvage and Marine Operations also provide these services to other Government Departments, including Environment, Home Office, and Transport and the regions. It is also responsible for the maritime salvage of all UK-registered civil aircraft as requested by the civil Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB).

Current Activity

The Salvage and Marine Operations Team’s work is defined by the MOD Endorsed Salvage Policy (ESP) and a number of business agreements with military operational Commanders. The brief is wide-ranging but covers primarily:

  • Marine salvage of vessels and aircraft.
  • Heavy lift operations.
  • Operational moorings including floating fuel terminals.
  • Blue water towing operations.
  • Underwater engineering repair operations.
  • Port clearance.
  • Wreck management.
  • MOD civilian diving operations

Customers

Salvage & Marine has a wide customer base covering the three armed services, most notably the RAF and the Royal Navy. Other customers include the Army, Permanent Joint HQ and Falkland Islands and the Department of Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform.
