Our Role
MCTA provides a range of maritime trials, capability evaluation, assessment and analysis services in order to deliver independent capability assurance to the maritime domain of the MOD.
Customers regard the independent status and well-established practices of MCTA as the cornerstone in the acceptance of new or refitted systems, ensuring that the same high standards demanded by the UK Royal Navy are also applied to Foreign and Commonwealth Navies. MCTA’s contribution to the building of warships for Foreign and Commonwealth Navies is well recognised and the service continues to be sought by overseas customers with ship building programmes or with ships refitted in UK shipyards.
MCTA’s role is normally to advise the customer on proposals for trials, to conduct those trials, and to assess whether the system has met the specifications. MCTA’s involvement is particularly valuable, but not restricted to, the safety of weapons, including ammunition stowage and explosive handling. MCTA can also assist in the conduct of firing trials. Power and propulsion analysis and systems and weapons analysis are also undertaken. Increasingly, MCTA is taking on the role of agent for Naval Authorities. This work encompasses assessing the safety and certification for Fire, Explosives, Power and Propulsion, Escape and Evacuation.
