Chief of Staff

The role of the DE&S Chief of Staff is to drive improvement in DE&S’s performance through effective support and provision of key business services.

The teams within the DE&S Chief of Staff area are:

Secretariat and Communications is responsible for Parliamentary Business and FOI requests, DE&S Board support, briefing for the Chief of Defence Materiel, employee relations and Trade Union consultation, internal communications, publication of desider (the DE&S corporate newsletter), management of DE&S intranet and internet sites, media and press handling, honours and awards, VIP visits

Infrastructure is responsible for the most complex and difficult infrastructure in the MOD estate ranging from the three major Naval bases to very large explosive stores.

International Relations Group is responsible for providing policy advice and support on international defence acquisition matters, which support the DE&S Business Plan and Defence Industrial Strategy.

Equipment Support Continuous Improvement Team provides an enduring in-house support solution capability in order to deliver effectiveness, efficiency and flexibility benefits to the Armed Forces.

Sustainable Procurement Team is responsible for embedding sustainability within the MOD’s acquisition processes. This includes addressing the implications of resource depletion and climate change in future requirements to ensure long-term operational sustainability.

Collocation is working to consolidate DE&S acquisition-related activities in a single geographical area which will improve decision-making, the through-life management of defence equipment and offer staff better career opportunities.
