FAST is responsible for:
Tornado
- Acting as Engineering Authority and ensuring the airworthiness and safety of the Tornado Platform
- Management of logistic support (including letting and managing all Contracted Logistic Support Contracts) and the development and management of strategies to support Tornado through its operational life
- Management of all development and production of future capability for the Tornado platform
- Co-ordinating outputs to maximise the flying programme and operational activities, ensuring delivery of current and longer term strategic objectives.
Typhoon
- Acting as Engineering Authority and ensuring the airworthiness and safety of the Typhoon platform.
- Management of all acquisition programmes within the Typhoon project, including development and production of future capability and Aircrew Synthetic Training Aids (ASTA) programmes.
- Management of the support elements of the project and the development and management of strategies which aim to support Typhoon through its operational life, including Integrated Logistics Support and Supply Chain Management.
- Through-life management of the Typhoon Weapon System (Avionics, General Systems & Structures, Propulsion and Information Systems), and for the integration of weapons onto the aircraft platform.
- Co-ordinating the output of Typhoon-related work, to maximise the flying programme and operational activities, ensuring delivery of needs of the day and the meeting of longer term strategic objectives.
AES (Aircrew Escape and Survival)
- Equipping aircrew for their tasks, safety, and survival.
- Providing and supporting Aircrew Equipment Assemblies, Survival Equipment and Aircraft Assisted Escape Systems. This scope includes the clothing and equipment donned by personnel pre-flight, the restraint harnesses which they use to strap into in the cockpit or cabin, the ejection seats and emergency escape parachutes they use for emergency egress, and the liferafts and survival aids they need to survive and escape on the ground or water.
Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF)
- Managing the BBMF, comprising Lancaster, Spitfire, Hurricane, Dakota and Chipmunk aircraft types.
