Hyperlinking to us at the Ministry of Defence
You do not have to ask permission to link directly to pages hosted on this site. We do not object to you linking directly to the information that is hosted on our site. However, we do not permit our pages to be loaded into frames on your site. The Ministry of Defence pages must load into the user's entire window.
How links are chosen for the MOD website
The www.mod.uk website includes links to both MOD and non-MOD websites. We select links that are editorially relevant to the content they are linking from and are suitable for the likely audience.
Links to internal systems (intranets) are discouraged on the basis of best practice, as they will only work for authorised users of the internal system being linked to. If you have a genuine business reason to include links to internal systems please contact the Internet team for advice at email address on the right hand of this page.
Links to restricted-access sites over the internet (extranets) are allowed, provided that it is explained that the link leads to a page where users will be required to login or request an account.
These links are included for a number of reasons, including:
- for further relevant information or other key source material
- for background information
- for useful practical information
We do not link to external sites in return for cash, services or any other consideration in kind.
The content contributors and authors select links and evaluate websites on the basis of editorial relevance. The MOD homepage does not accept submissions or requests.
Links to external websites
External links are selected and reviewed when the content page is published. However, the MOD is not responsible for the content of external websites. This is because:
- the MOD does not produce them or maintain/update them
- the MOD cannot change them
- they can be changed without the MOD's knowledge or agreement
Some of our external links may be to websites which also offer commercial services, such as online purchases.
The inclusion of a link to an external website from any MOD content page should not be understood to be an endorsement of that website or the site's owners (or their products/services).
