Artillery Fire Control Trainer – Part Task (AFCT-PT)

The Artillery Fire Control Trainer – Part Task (AFCT-PT) is a classroom based simulation used for the training of dismounted Indirect Fire Forward Observation Officers (FOO).

Service - Army

General Characteristics/Technical Performance

A simulated battlefield is projected to the front of the classroom to enable trainees to engage targets using the full range of UK Artillery ammunition and practice the Tactics, Techniques and Procedures relevant to the Forward Observer role, specifically the procedures to call for fire and adjust artillery effects.

Each trainer is installed into either a 24 or 12 seat classroom and incorporates simulation of the sighting systems available to the Forward Observation Officers.

CAE (UK) Plc is the Design Authority and the Prime Contractor responsible for the support of the equipment.

Costs/In-Service Date (ISD)/Major Milestones/Quantities

Costs to date are approximately £5M. There are two 24 seat systems and twenty two 12 seat systems in both the UK and Germany and these have been In-Service since 1997.
