In the last year the centre has signed up over 100 learners to study for around 500 courses in a range of subjects, including Skills for Life, National Vocational Qualifications, computer skills and leadership and management studies.
To win the award, the centre's performance was compared against similar facilities at RN/RM establishments across England and Scotland. Judging was based on the targets set, the quality of support to learners and the management of the facilities.
The Raleigh centre is managed by John Raphael and Linda Hampson, who work for Flagship Training Limited, a commercial company that has a partnering arrangement with the Royal Navy to provide a range of services. John and Linda are on hand to advise students on the courses available and facilitate their learning.
John represented Raleigh at the awards ceremony and was presented with the prize by the author and former member of the SAS, Andy McNabb. John said:
"I was extremely proud to receive the award on behalf of the centre. The learners actually make the centre and our success is down to their hard work and commitment."
HMS Raleigh's Learndirect facility opened in January 2006. It is one of approximately 120 centres at Armed Forces establishments throughout the UK and bases abroad.
