The awards recognise the diversity, talent and creative ability of Royal Navy photographers, highlighting the operational activities of the Service.

Named after HMS Peregrine Royal Naval Air Station in Sussex, the competition dates back to 1961 and showcases the talent of the professionals of the Navy’s Photographic branch and keen amateur photographers.

The Peregrine Trophy aims to encourage and recognise the production of eye-catching images that capture the spirit, ethos and unique capability of the Naval Service.

The Royal Navy and Royal Marines are routinely deployed on operations all around the world, and the images highlight the diversity of these naval operations. Featured are photographs and footage, ranging from the operational theatres of Afghanistan, to the latest warships patrolling the oceans, to people, places and events around the world - often in extraordinary circumstances.
