Two soldiers killed at Camp Bastion

It is with great sadness that the Ministry of Defence must announce that two soldiers from the Royal Logistic Corps were killed in Afghanistan today, Monday 14 February 2011.

Initial indications are that the soldiers' deaths were due to a domestic fire at Camp Bastion. The incident is under investigation and more information will be released when known. It is not believed to be a result of enemy action.

Spokesman for Camp Bastion, Wing Commander Martin Tinworth, said:

"It is my sad duty to report the loss of two soldiers from the Royal Logistic Corps this morning. The soldiers died in a fire on Camp Bastion 2; this incident is now under investigation.

"Both soldiers were involved in vital support work for the UK forces who continue to bring hope and stability across Afghanistan.

"Our heartfelt condolences go out to both soldiers' family and friends at this deeply sad time."

Next of kin have been informed and have asked or a period of grace before further details are released.
