Two soldiers from the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers killed in Afghanistan

It is with great sadness that the Ministry of Defence must announce the deaths of two soldiers from the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, serving with 1st The Queen's Dragoon Guards.

The soldiers died during the afternoon of Sunday 15 March 2009 as a result of an enemy explosion during a vehicle patrol in the Garmsir district, southern Helmand province.

Spokesperson for Task Force Helmand, Commander Paula Rowe, said:

"The deaths of these two soldiers will be keenly felt by all in the Task Force and particularly by those who worked alongside them. Our deepest and heartfelt sympathies go to their families and loved ones and we offer our thoughts and prayers to them all at this most painful and distressing time."

Next of kin have been informed and have asked for a period of grace before further details are released.
