Two Service personnel killed in Helicopter crash near Catterick

It is with much sadness that the Ministry of Defence must confirm the death of two Service personnel as a result of an RAF helicopter crash near Catterick Garrison yesterday, Wednesday 8 August 2007.

The aircraft involved in the crash was a Puma Helicopter from 33 Squadron, RAF Benson.
12 personnel were on board, three from the RAF and nine from the Army. Two fatalities have been confirmed at the scene. The ten injured have been taken to surrounding hospitals in Darlington, Northallerton, Middlesborough and Newcastle.
No further details about the personnel involved will be given until all families have been informed. The cause of the accident is still unknown and a full investigation is now in progress. Our sympathies are with the families and loved ones of those involved.
