Two Royal Marines from 42 Commando Royal Marines killed in Afghanistan

It is with great sadness that the Ministry of Defence must confirm that two Royal Marines from 42 Commando Royal Marines were killed in southern Helmand province this morning, Thursday 27 November 2008.

The two Marines were taking part in a foot patrol when they came under sustained enemy fire from insurgents to the north west of Lashkar Gah.

Spokesperson for Task Force Helmand, Commander Paula Rowe, said:

"The loss of these two Royal Marines has come as a bitter and tragic blow to everyone in Task Force Helmand. While words cannot ease their devastation, our heartfelt condolences go out to their families, friends and comrades at this most painful time."

Next of kin have been informed and have asked for a period of grace before further details are released.
