Three soldiers from the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers killed in Afghanistan

It is with great sadness that the Ministry of Defence must confirm that three British soldiers from 2nd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers have died following an explosion while on patrol near Sangin in Helmand province this morning.

Lieutenant Colonel Nick Richardson, Spokesman for Task Force Helmand, said:

"Each and every death is a tragedy and the whole of Task Force Helmand feels the weight of such great loss. Words mean very little in such an extremely sad situation but our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of these brave soldiers. We share their pain and mourn the loss of these true British heroes."

Next of kin have been informed and have asked for a period of grace before further details are released.
