Soldier serving with 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards killed in Afghanistan

It is with sadness that the Ministry of Defence must announce that a soldier from the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards was killed in Afghanistan on Wednesday 13 June 2012.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

The soldier was part of a patrol to disrupt insurgent activity in the north of Nahr-e Saraj district in Helmand province when he was wounded by small arms fire and a grenade blast. Despite receiving immediate medical treatment he was sadly killed in action.

Spokesman for Task Force Helmand Major Ian Lawrence said:

Sadly I must inform you that a soldier from the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards has been killed whilst on patrol in the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand province.

The thoughts of all within Task Force Helmand are with his family and friends at this difficult time.

The soldier’s family have been informed and they have asked for a period of grace before further details are released.
