Soldier from The Joint Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group killed in Afghanistan

It is with great sadness that the Ministry of Defence must confirm that a soldier from The Joint Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group was killed yesterday afternoon, 20 July 2009.

The soldier was killed as a result of an explosion that happened whilst on patrol in central Helmand province.

Spokesman for Task Force Helmand Lieutenant Colonel Nick Richardson said:

"The death of any comrade brings sadness to the Task Force but we are consoled by the fact that these deaths are not in vain. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends so affected by this tragic event."

Next of kin have been informed and have asked for a period of grace before further details are released.
