RMP soldier killed in Afghanistan

It is with great sadness that the Ministry of Defence must confirm that a soldier from the Royal Military Police has been killed in Afghanistan today, Thursday 22 October 2009.

The soldier was killed as a result of an explosion that happened during a foot patrol near to Gereshk district centre in central Helmand province this morning.
Spokesman for Task Force Helmand, Lieutenant Colonel David Wakefield, said:
"It is my sad duty to confirm the death of a soldier, a Royal Military Policeman, in an explosion earlier today in Helmand province. He died doing his duty and we will remember him."
Next of kin have been informed and have asked for a period of grace before further details are released.
