It is with deep regret that the Ministry of Defence must confirm the death of a British soldier from from the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, who was attached to the 2nd Royal Tank Regiment today, Saturday 21 July 2007.

MOD Announcement

The soldier died as a result of an indirect fire attack on Basra Palace. For reasons of operational security we are unable to give any further details.

The soldier’s next of kin have been informed. They have requested a 24 hour period of grace before further details are released.
