The works were project-managed by DE Operations North and the building was handed over on time and on budget on 1 October 2009 – just 10 months after the initial design meeting was held.
The new medical centre, which has two four-bed wards as well as four single ensuite rooms and seven treatment rooms, has been named the Nesbitt Centre after Kate Nesbitt - a medical assistant who was recently awarded the Military Cross.
Rob Seymour, DE Project Manager said:
"The project was a success because the project team, Army Primary Health Care Service (APHCS) North East region, DInfra, DST Quarter Master’s staff, DE Ops North and Regional Prime Contractor CarillionEnterprise, were dedicated and worked closely together to design and construct this building, which is fully designed for the 'end user' to provide the best possible layouts."
"The prefabricated modular building system was selected to meet the required in-service date. The building has a high level of insulation to reduce long term operating costs.
"Its purpose-made units have been designed and constructed to ensure that the quality of build and completion date met with the customer’s exacting requirements."
Alison Frankland, APHCS North East region commented:
"This is one of the best medical reception stations in the country."
The new medical reception station will treat anyone requiring medical attention while attending a driver training course, as well as DST’s permanent staff.
