POSTER: The Battle Buses

In 2006 the MOD unveiled Mastiff and Bulldog, new personnel carriers for forces on operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Defence Focus decided to have a look at what else the Army is using in these theatres.

Mastiff

Mastiff, a formidable 6x6 wheel-drive patrol vehicle with extra armour and integrated communications

Whether you need something small and nimble to nip around in, or big and brutal to get you out of trouble, these vehicles are designed to get the job done.  And they are all being deployed in Iraq or Afghanistan offering extra protection for the troops.

The vehicles on the poster (by Defence Focus graphics editor Dave Barlow) are:

  • Mastiff - a formidable 6x6 wheel-drive patrol vehicle with extra armour and integrated communications
  • Vector - Fast and lightweight 6x6 wheel-drive patrol vehicle with newly-armoured body
  • Warrior - Tracked infantry fighting vehicle, heavily armoured and equipped with a cannon
  • Bulldog - Up-armoured patrol vehicle with turret, based on the FV430
  • Snatch - Militarised Land Rover, used where a highly mobile and less aggressive posture is needed.
