BAE Systems will be providing supply chain support for new GR9 avionics equipment until 2014. The Harrier Component Support Package builds on the existing Mech 1A Lite contract, a ten-year availability service for the provision of Harrier component spares and repairs.

Captain Paul Bishop, the Harrier in-service support project manager, said:

"This contract will make a significant contribution to ensure the ongoing success of the Harrier on operations and in the UK. It also takes us closer to the long-term goal of availability contracting at the platform level."

"The contract also guarantees the continuity of supply for more that 4,000 other components at a significant saving compared to current support arrangements."

Ian Gault, BAE Systems' Harrier availability director, said:

"This contract award is a significant milestone for Harrier in moving towards the innovative through-life Harrier Platform Availability Contract.

"The joint MoD and BAE Systems team has worked in partnership to overcome difficult and challenging problems and has developed innovative approaches in delivering an affordable solution to achieve this key milestone."
