The Buttercross, Market Drayton Town Centre
Tern Hill is situated in the middle of the North Shropshire countryside, near to Market Drayton which is famous as the home of Gingerbread. The camp and Service Families Accommodation are in a fairly rural setting, although the busy A41 separates the two areas. There is a pub, a late night shop and a petrol station with a cash-point situated within walking distance. Non-drivers may find the immediate local area a bit limited, but the bus service into Market Drayton is good. For drivers, this camp is the centre of everywhere! Shrewsbury and Telford are both great for shopping and days out, and are within a 30 minute drive. North Wales is around 40 minutes drive away, and the M54 and M6 motorways are within easy reach.
Clive Barracks in Tern Hill is currently the home of the 1st Battalion, The Royal Irish Regiment. Facilities on camp include a Unit Gymnasium, Medical and Dental Centres, and an Army Learning & LearnDirect Centre with free internet access. The Service Families Accommodation estates are within easy walking distance of the barracks, and include an Infant School, Nursery, Army and Air Cadets’ building and Unit Welfare Office. The Community Centre is located centrally on Hedley Way, and incorporates the HIVE, Coffee Pot, Bar (open Friday evenings), Mums & Tots, a children’s soft play area, youth clubs and free internet café complete with Skype and webcams.
