Chepstow Castle

Chepstow Castle and the River Wye

The name Chepstow is derived from the Olde English words "Chepe" and "Stowe" meaning market place. The historic walled border town and ancient Port of Chepstow commands the entrance to the Lower Wye Valley in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The ruins of Chepstow Castle sit on the cliffs over the River Wye; building commenced the year after the Battle of Hastings in 1067 by the Normans.

Nearby Chepstow Racecourse is a well know venue attracting events such as the Welsh Grand National. On Sundays the racecourse is the venue for a general market and monthly antique fairs. Within the local area you can find a full range of amenities including shopping, sport and places of interest. Full details are available from the HIVE.
