Canterbury is a beautiful Cathedral City in South-East Kent, it boasts the oldest Cathedral in England and although steeped in tradition, it is a modern and vibrant City.
The city is just a 15 minute drive from the M2 providing easy access to Central London and Bluewater Shopping Complex. The ports of Dover and Folkestone are also only a 30 minute drive providing access to both France and the rest of the Continent.
Local facilities in Canterbury include a leisure centre, a bowling and skating centre, an Odeon cinema, The Marlowe Theatre, a golf club and Whitefriars Shopping Centre. Three Zoo and wildlife parks also lie within a 15 mile radius of Howe Barracks, which are open all year round. There is also an abundance of Community centres in Canterbury including one at the Barracks, all of which offering Sure Start facilities for toddlers, as well as adult and children’s clubs and activities.
In Canterbury’s wider area the towns of Broadstairs, Sandwich and Whitstable all have excellent shopping, leisure facilities and restaurants and are easily accessed by road and rail. Canterbury has two train stations both of which offer frequent services to London and the Kent Coastline. Canterbury also has an excellent bus network and buses run to London from Canterbury bus station and locally from outside Howe Barracks.
Facilities within the barracks include a spar shop, a cash point and a PRI shop. The Twenty/20 club offers a bar and food court, Colours Restaurant is also open 7 days a week providing meals until 18.00. There is also a pre-school within the barracks offering early childcare to children from 2 years old.
