Ayios Nikolaos is located in the Eastern Sovereign Base Area (ESBA), it is 15 miles North East of Dhekelia Garrison and 5 miles from the city of Famagusta (which is located in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC)). The Joint Service Signal Unit (JSSU) Cyprus at Ayios Nikolaos comprises of RN, Army, RAF and civilian personnel. There is also a detachment at Troodos (Golf Section). It is a relatively small community, consisting of approximately 1200 people including both serving personnel and families.
The Station has the following sporting facilities; golf club, gymnasium, multi-gym, tennis courts, rugby club, squash courts, kart club, tae kwondo, aerobics and a gun club. Other recreational amenities include; library, education centre, Unit Sports Bar and the Snug Bar & Bistro.
For the children there is a youth club, Brownies, Beavers, Rainbows, Cubs, a skateboard park, football & rugby club, Gymtots, swimming clubs, Rookies Lifeguarding and more besides. There is a crèche and Ayios Nikolaos Primary School is located within the Service Families Accommodation area. Secondary schooling is provided by King Richard School at Dhekelia Station.
