The Dale Barracks in Chester is the current home of the 1st Battalion The Royal Welsh.  It is a purpose built infantry barracks and is situated 2 miles from the vibrant city of Chester.  Chester is located in the north-west of England where Liverpool and Manchester are very accessible.  The Welsh border is also close by, so the coastal towns of Rhyl and Llandudno are within an easy day trip distance.  Outside the main barracks gate there is an excellent bus route with direct links to the city, Cheshire Oaks designer outlet village and Liverpool city centre, as well as an excellent park and ride facility a short walk from the camp.

The Dale Barracks has excellent on-camp facilities which include a gymnasium with airconditioned cardio-vascular suite and weights room, squash courts, a floodlit 5 a side sports pitch, landscaped areas, sports pitches, medical and dental centre, Army Learning Centre, SPAR shop and HUB bar and lounge area.

The Service families accommodation (SFA) estate is located outside the wire and also has excellent facilities.  There is a children's playpark and an abundance of green open space.  There is also a newly modernised community centre which is fully equipped with a kitchen, bar area and indoor children's play area.  This provides a wide range of activities and clubs for children and families.  To the rear of the community centre is the welfare complex where the HIVE office is located, along with a youth club.  The Sunshine Under 5s pre-school is also situated on the SFA estate.
