RAF Wyton

The area around Wyton has been associated with aviation for over 90 years – a period that almost embraces the entire history of aviation.  Several aviation milestones have been recorded from RAF Wyton.  The first sortie of WW2 took off from here as well as the first aircraft of the 1000 bomber raids on Germany.  The legendary Pathfinder Force was formed here and Wyton aircraft took part in the last Bomber Command Raid on Germany.  1981 marked the retirement from Wyton of the Royal Air Forces last serving Spitfire pilot.

The picture postcard village of Houghton & Wyton is approximately 4 miles away and is itself steeped in history, the village has one of the oldest working mills in the country and regularly sells the flour it produces.  There are plenty of ramblers’ routes that start from the village, most of which are suitable for children.

RAF Wyton has a wide range of facilities including gymnasium, hairdressers, beautician, coffee shop, Spar shop, library, bowling alley, "Mums & Tots", post office, thrift shop, and church. RAF Wyton’s Service Families’ Accommodation is located outside the wire and access to RAF Wyton is via pedestrian gates. You will need a gate pass to operate the pedestrian gates; these are available through passes & permits, located next to the main guardroom. The housing estate comprises of SFA and privately owned houses (previously SFA).
