Conditions
Please note that when you accept a UK-based teaching or education specialist post with SCE you become a civil servant. Your employment is under MOD terms and conditions, and these differ in some respects from employment in UK schools or with UK local authorities.
A copy of the standard contract for a UK-based teacher can be accessed from this link. You should look through this carefully and raise any issues with SCE recruitment staff if you are uncertain about them, even before receiving your individual contract.
For teaching posts we follow the England and Wales Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document in most respects. However, we do not follow the so-called “Burgundy Book”. This covers arrangements for such things as sick pay, maternity, grievance and disciplinary procedures. These are covered instead by the MOD policy, rules and guidance. There are some aspects where the MOD conditions are more generous than the Burgundy Book, e.g. maternity provision, and others where the Burgundy Book is more generous.
If you need any further guidance or advice about MOD terms and conditions, please feel free to contact SCE recruitment staff.
