All SCE schools have an allocation to support children with SEN.
This can be used for a range of purposes but is most often used to provide additional learning support assistance. The allocation reflects both pupil numbers and the level of need (based on the school’s National Curriculum assessment results). It is not necessary for a child to have a statement of special educational needs to receive additional support from the school’s delegated SEN budget.
Where a child is admitted to a SCE school with a statement of special educational needs issued by a UK local authority, the special provision specified in the statement will be met by SCE until such time as the statement is reviewed. However, SCE cannot provide funding to maintain a child’s placement at a non-SCE school on special needs grounds.
