Courses leading to public examinations and qualifications

The range of GCSE, A level and vocational courses available to students at each SCE Secondary School is not prescribed.

SCE

Although there are no specialist schools, the range of courses and qualifications offered may differ between schools. This is partly a function of size, since larger schools are able to offer a wider range of courses

Service Children's Education

Some post-16 courses may be offered only if sufficient students apply to study them. Schools work in partnership with other SCE Secondary Schools, Education and Training Services (ETS), and local providers of vocational education to widen the range of courses and options available for students at Key Stage 4 and in the sixth form. Nevertheless, the range of 14-19 course choices may be more limited than in many areas of the UK. Parents are advised to explore and consider this if they are to be accompanied on an overseas posting by children over the age of 14.

The examination boards used by SCE Secondary Schools are not prescribed. The choice of examination board for each subject rests with the Headteacher.
