Combined Arms Courses
The Land Warfare School at Warminster runs courses across the rank range from junior NCO to Brigadier. These include the Junior Officers' Tactics Awareness Course, the Battle Group Battle Planning Course, Combined Arms Tactics Course, International Battle Group Commanders and Battle Group Commanders Course (NATO).
International Urban Operations Course
IDT (LWC) runs a two week International Urban Operations Course at the urban operations facility at Copehill Down on Salisbury Plain. The aim of the course is to train personnel in British Urban Operations techniques in order to enable them to conduct urban training at sub-unit level.
Jungle Training Courses
IDT supports jungle training courses in Belize and Brunei. Places are available on the Jungle Warfare Advisors' course in Brunei, a 5 week course open to senior NCOs and officers. Vacancies are also available on the Long Range Recconnaissance Patrol Course in Belize, a six week course based around formed patrols of 6 men running for 6 weeks. IDT also facilitates a 5 week Military Tracking Instructors' course in Brunei.
Access to Facilities
IDT(LWC) can arrange access to facilities at the Land Warfare Centre such as the Command and Staff Trainer (CAST) and the Combined Arms Tactical Trainer (CATT) at sites in the UK or Germany or access to training areas in the UK or overseas.
IDT also facilitates Urban Training packages for other Armies up to company level at a purpose-built village on Salisbury Plain .
Peace Support Programme
This eight day package explains the British Army's approach to Peace Support and Stabilisation Operations. The package includes briefs on doctrine, training, equipment and operations as well as visits to training facilities used to prepare British units for operations.
Border Management Programme
This 10 day course is designed for military, police, customs and those involved in border security and management. It includes modules on the definition of borders, dealing with border disputes, transnational crime and illegal migration. During the programme, delegates will visit a UK port or airport for an insight into some of the current security procedures employed.
Collective Training Briefing
IDT(LWC) has developed a bespoke Collective Training Briefing Programme; a one week programme which introduces key training staff to the methods and systems used to prepare British units for operations. The package includes visits to the training facilities used by the Land Warfare Centre.
Attachments & Exchanges
IDT(LWC) can arrange short term attachments of up to 3 months to British Army units. Short exchanges can be arranged with with other Armies.
Army Language Scholarship Scheme
IDT(LWC) administers the Army Language Scholarship Scheme the aim of which is to give selected officers language training and experience in other Armies in order to increase the pool of officers capable of operating effectively with or alongside key allies.
Exchange Au Pair Scheme
IDT(LWC) coordinates the Exchange Au Pair scheme: a two week programme for Officers, Warrant Officers and SNCOs, the aim of which is to develop interoperability and basic language skills at unit level whilst enhancing bilateral relationships.
Exchange Programme LONG LOOK
IDT(LWC) is the UK National Coordinating Authority and Army focus for Exchange Programme LONG LOOK.
LONG LOOK is a tri-service, annual, short-term, individual, unaccompanied, reciprocal exchange between junior officers and NCOs from the British, Australian and New Zealand Armed Forces. Its aim is to develop interoperability whilst broadening the military experience and professional knowledge of the exchange personell. Continued cooperation between the participant countries is fostered through exposure of the exchange personnel to different procedures, equipment and personnel, as well as to another culture.
