Please browse through the pages and refer to the FAQ page to answer any burning questions. If your question is not covered on this website please do not hesitate to contact us.

If you are considering donating or selling your dog to us, rest assured that your dog will be cared for, stimulated and trained through positive reward based training ie plenty of ball work, play and focused games.

The Five Freedoms

When you have made the decision to support your country by donating your dog and the dog has passed all the necessary assessments you can rest assured that they are being well cared for. The Defence Animal Centre pledges to endeavour to meet 'The Five Freedoms':

  • Freedom from Hunger
  • Freedom from Pain, Injury and Disease
  • Freedom from Fear and Distress
  • Freedom from Physical Discomfort
  • Freedom to perform most normal forms of behaviour

In addition to this there is a Code of Practice for the Welfare of Dogs.

Your Next Step

1. Call us on 01664 418668 (24 hours). We will ask you a few questions about your dog and ascertain whether or not it has the potential to join us here at the DAC.

2. If we conclude that it does have potential we will arrange a home visit and carry out a short assessment.

3. Assessment. There is nothing that you can do to prepare your dog for assessment and we do not charge anything to view it.

4. If your dog is deemed to be suitable we will take it with us immediately where it will have a thorough check up with our resident vets and commence training.

5. If your dog does not pass the training, we will offer it back to you or look to re-home it.
