The Equine Training Squadron is responsible for the procurement of horses and pack ponies/mules for use on both public duties and the operational areas of Defence. The public duty arena is the DACs most visual advertisement, with the finished product at the heart of all UK state occasions. The school is also responsible for the training and development of Military riding instructors and horse trainers across the Army.

The training standards and facilities are recognised worldwide as being of the highest quality. This recognition is supported by the world renowned British Horse Society (BHS) who license a number of training courses provided by the School. All instructors within School have successfully completed accreditation from the BHS.

The Advance Military Equitation Course is one of the most comprehensive courses in the equine world, since its inception it has run at full capacity and continues to attract full course bids. Although primarily aimed at the Mounted Units, the course is also attended by the Household Division and the Royal Army Veterinary Corp.

Equine Training Squadron also provides a course more widely available to all Services. The Military Competitors Course is a three week course which is aimed to improve Service personnel who are already at a standard of competition and are looking to improve. Although this course is available to all it is subject to an assessment by the staff at the school to ensure that minimum standards are met.
