DLS is based at Deepcut and consists of the Headquarters, 25 Training Regiment with outstations at Marchwood, West Moors and Bicester, Command Wing, All Arms Wing with an outstation at Ashchurch and the RAF Supply and Movements Training Wing (SMTW) based at RAF Halton with outstations at RAF Cranwell, RAF Brize Norton and Deepcut, and the Food Services Wing (FSW) based at Worthy Down and RAF Halton. Each part of the organisation delivers a unique range of logistic courses. The outstations fulfil specific equipment and environmental requirements, for example Port and Maritime courses conducted by 25 Training Regiment use the port location, equipment and facilities in Marchwood.
Many training facilities are available to DLS to enhance training. Realistic Working Environment areas are used throughout DLS to accurately reflect live working conditions. DLS outstations have access to specialist onsite equipment, vehicles and simulators. IT equipment and software used for training replicate those used in the Field Army and RAF. Education facilities are also readily available, providing trainees immediate support if required. Accreditation and Continuous Professional Development is actively supported, many courses contribute to NVQ and recognised civilian qualifications. Adventure Training is conducted for trainees and Permanent Staff alike and a variety of sports facilities are available throughout DLS.
DLS employs 386 military personnel and 173 civil servants in instructor and support roles, total staff 559. There were 636 course instances completed in the training year 10/11 for a total of 8146 course personnel. The SOTR is divided as follows: 41% conducted by 25 Training Regiment, 20% by All Arms Wing, 18% by Command Wing, 12% by SMTW and 1% by DPS.
25 Training Regiment provides the duty of care, administrative support and military continuation training to soldiers undertaking initial trade training. It is also responsible for training Phase 2 & 3 personnel in Postal & Courier, Engineer Resources, Pioneer artisan skills, Supply operations, Rail, Petroleum operations and Port & Maritime operations.
The Command Wing provides training in command, leadership and management, to RLC officers, tri-Service headquarters staff and foreign officers. It is also responsible for soldier career courses including Command Leadership & Management training and the RLC Warrant Officer course.
The All Arms Wing provides training for Army Quartermasters and their support staff, Safety Management including Health and Safety Advisors and Dangerous Goods Consignors. It also conducts RLC Vehicle Support Specialist training.
RAF SMTW provides Special to Service logistic support and Movements training to personnel from all three Services, overseas personnel and OGDs. It is also responsible for providing management and supply officer training for RAF and foreign officers, together with pre-employment short courses.
The Food Services Wing (FSW) within the Defence Logistics School (DLS), provides Catering Services training, which includes Chefs and Stewards to the Army and RAF.
