Logistics and Personnel Administration underpin every operation carried out by the Armed Forces, providing the backbone of effective military capability.

Created on the recommendation of the Defence Training Review (DTR), which aimed to rationalise and improve training across defence, The Defence College of Logistics and Personnel Administration(DCLPA) formed 1 April 2004. It is one of five Federated Defence Training Establishments, or Defence Colleges, that were established through an amalgamation of its predecessor single service Logistic and Personnel Administration schools.

Charged with responsibility for providing tri-Service Logistic and Personnel Administration training for the UK Armed Forces and their supporting elements, the college aim is to become a true centre of excellence for the delivery of integrated Defence Logistic and Personnel Administration training.

The College consists of 4 Schools: The Defence School of Transport (DST), The Defence School of Personnel Administration (DSPA), The Defence Logistics School (DLS) and The Defence Maritime Logistics School (DMLS).These schools are located over 11 dfferent sites around the UK, and run over 600 dfferent courses with a training capacity of approximately 50,000 students every year.

Course durations range from 3-day familiarisation packages to degree standard courses lasting over 12 months; all provide students with comprehensive high-quality instruction across the spectrum of training. This training is acknowledged to be some of the best in the world, which is reflected by national and international recognition and high pass rates in a wide range of accredited civilian professional examinations.

Defence School for Transport

The Headquarters provides Command and Control for its schools and reports to the Army Recruiting and Training Division (ARTD). The College Commandant is an Army Brigadier and experienced logistician; he is also the Garrison Commander for the local area including Ash, Mytchett and Pirbright.

DSPA

The Chief of Staff is an Army Colonel responsible for the day-to-day management of the College during the Short Term Planning Period. His branch comprises both military staff from all 3 Services and civilian personnel working in areas including Training Operations, Training Policy and Development and Resources, Plans and Finance. This branch also provides administrative support to the headquarters, and manages a Media Resource Centre to support the headquarters and units based at Deepcut.

The Assistant Chief of Staff (Transition) is an RAF Group Captain who is responsible for co-ordinating the College’s training transformation programme, supporting the implementation of DTR and providing specialist training analysis services in Joint Logistic and Personnel Administration disciplines.

The Headquarters prides itself on the strong relationships that it has established not only with the 3 Services, but also with a range of external organisations in the Logistic and Operational Administration arenas. Owing to a proactive approach, the headquarters is able to ensure provision of Logistic and Personnel Administration training that meets the current and evolving needs of front-line commands. Its transition programme will equip the schools to meet the training challenge of the future, thus maintaining the College’s reputation for training excellence..
