Multi Activity Lodge Information

The ATG(G) has AT lodges in Bavaria; Drei Muhlen, Haus Magnus and the Harz Mountains; Sonnenberg, Torfhaus.

  • Drei Mühlen Lodge, Wertach

The Drei Mühlen is located in the village of Wertach in Bavaria. In addition to accommodation for Type 2 adventurous training, it also houses and runs the Type 4 Paragliding Courses for ATG(G). Accommodation: The Lodge can accommodate approximately 80 military personnel for adventurous training. Accommodation is in 4 man rooms. Mattresses and bedding are provided at no cost.

Ablutions: All rooms have en-suite facilities.

Other Facilities: The Lodge has a large, comfortable bar area, games room, satellite TV and video, briefing room and washing/drying facilities.

  • Haus Magnus, Wertach

Accommodation: The Lodge can accommodate 60 military personnel for adventurous training. Accommodation is in a mixed configuration of bedrooms. Mattresses and bedding are provided.

Ablutions: Many rooms have en-suite facilities. There are sufficient ablutions for those rooms which are not en-suite .

Other Facilities:
Drinks are available in the Lodge bar. In addition, a drinks machine is available offering a selection of hot and cold drinks. The lodge has the following facilities for unit use: satellite TV and video, washing machine and tumble-dryer, gaming machines and gym.

  • The following information applies to all lodges in Bavaria.

Costing: Accommodation will be provided by ATG (G) at no charge, subject to all personnel being entitled, on duty and the exercise being cleared and authorised.

Messing: It is the unit's responsibility to apply for CILOR through the normal channels. CILOR clearance forms are the to be handed to the Lodge Manager on your arrival. All CILOR purchases will be handled by the Lodge via a cash-less transaction. At present, this system applies only to Army units – RAF and Navy personnel currently have no system in place to claim CILOR and therefore must pay on arrival using Euro cash. The Lodge Chefs will prepare all meals. Meal timings will vary depending on your exercise program. There will be handover/takeover of accommodation on arrival and departure at the Lodge. Units will be expected to leave the Lodge in a clean and tidy condition. Units should aim to arrive at the Lodge between 1200 hrs and 1600 hrs. On day one of the serial (Monday) the Lodges are not manned until 1200 hrs. Units must vacate the Lodge by 1000 hrs on the day of departure. There will be no kitchen service available after 1800 hrs.

Equipment: Summer: Equipment stores are located at the Lodge. Your exact requirements should be discussed and agreed with the Chief Instructor. However, it should be noted that if you are following a Summer Mountaineering Proficiency (SMP) Course Training Plan (CTP), you must bring a military sleeping bag.
Winter: Emergency equipment stores only (to assist with breakages, etc) are located at the Lodge. All stores should therefore be drawn prior to your arrival.

Training Facilities: The following activities may be conducted in the area:- trekking, rock-climbing, klettersteiging, abseiling, top-roping, ski-ing, snow shoeing, cross-country and alpine skiing, snowboarding, water ski-ing, mountain biking, windsurfing, white-water rafting, swimming, paragliding and hang gliding. As not all these activities are classed as adventurous training activities, clarification should be sought in the first instance from the Type 2 Clearance Clerk, further advice can be obtained from the Training Officer at HQ ATG (G) when planning your exercise. Fit To Train Certification. As a result of a Land Accident Prevention and Investigation Team (LAIT) report all soldiers participating in formal AT activities whilst accommodated in MALs (Bavaria or Harz), are to be classed as on duty and must be fit to undertake the respective activities. The Exercise OIC is responsible for ensuring all personnel, including reserves are fit to attend these activities and that this requirement is recorded on Unit Routine Orders.

Swimming Ability. Units accommodated in MALs (Bavaria or Harz), that plan or decide at the last minute, to conduct white water rafting as a challenge pursuit activity must first ensure that all personnel taking part in this activity can swim. The standard of swimming required is assessed to be the Army Military Swimming Test. The Exercise OIC is responsible for ensuring all personnel, including reserves are of the appropriate standard for the activity and that this requirement is confirmed with the Lodge Chief Instructor before the event takes place.

Information on Lodges in the Harz

  • Sonnenberg Lodge, Harz Mountains

The Sonnenberg Lodge is located near the village of St. Andreasberg in the Harz Mountains.

Accommodation: The Lodge can accommodate 30 military personnel for adventurous training (AT). Accommodation is in a mixed configuration of bedrooms. Mattresses are provided but soldiers should bring their own sleeping bags and pillows.

Costing: Accommodation will be provided by ATG (G) at no charge, subject to all personnel being entitled, on duty and your exercise being cleared and authorised.

Ablutions: There are ample shower/washing/WC facilities within the Lodge. The Lodge has a fully equipped kitchen for use by qualified military personnel. It is up to the unit to bring their own chefs and rations for the duration of the exercise. However, all items of cooking equipment are provided, as are crockery and cutlery.

Other Facilities: The Lodge has a washing machine and drying rooms. Satellite TV is located in the dining/seating area, but you will need to take your own Sky card with you, along with any videos and your own music. There is no phone system available, except for emergencies, therefore mobile phones are required. BBQ facilities are available, subject to season.

  • Torfhaus Lodge, Harz Mountains

The Torfhaus Lodge is located near the Bröcken in the Harz Mountains. It is divided into four areas – the sleeping accommodation, seating area, ablutions and kitchen.

Accommodation: The Lodge can accommodate 20 military personnel for adventurous training. Accommodation is in one dormitory-style room containing ten bunk-beds. Mattresses are provided but soldiers should bring their own sleeping bags and pillows.

Sonnenberg

Torfhaus Lodge, Harz Mountains

Costing : Accommodation will be provided by ATG(G) at no charge, subject to all personnel being entitled, on duty and undertaking an ATG (G) cleared and authorised exercise.

Ablutions : There are ample shower/washing/WC facilities within the Lodge, although these are not segregated into male/female ablutions.

Other Facilities : The Lodge has a kitchen for use by qualified military personnel. It is up to the unit to bring their own chefs and rations for the duration of their exercise. Satellite TV is located in the small seating area. There is no telephone system, except for emergencies, a mobile phone is required. BBQ facilities are available, subject to season.
