High Altitude Module (HAM) - Course Training Plan

The guidelines that can be read/downloaded from this page have been compiled to provide leaders of Adventurous Training (AT) expeditions with advice on the conduct of activities in an altitude environment.

These guidelines are neither exhaustive nor definitive as we cannot provide an answer to every altitude related situation. Our objective is to outline the essential information on acclimatisation, and prevention and treatment of the most common illnesses, for those planning expeditions.

This is aimed particularly at first time leaders. Although this Course Training Plan (CTP) focuses on mountaineering many of the recognised principles will have a direct relevance to other Adventurous Training activities operating in similar environments.

The information and guidance to be found in Joint Service Publication JSP419, Army General and Administration Instructions (AGAIs) and the current Defenc Information and notices (DINs) will always supersede this documentation.
