- Basic Freefall Parachute (BFP)
The BFP course is for personnel with no previous parachuting experience. Courses run from February to November each year. 8 two-week (15 jumps) and 6 one-week (8 jumps) courses are conducted to British Parachuting Association (BPA) standards, for up to 15 personnel per course. The ground training and test to confirm understanding of training is carried out on the first day. Initial jumps are carried out using a static line (S/L) operated parachute. After completing a minimum of 5 jumps progression to freefall may be made. After completing 3 - 5 descents personal development training is carried out which explores aspects such as the need for clear communications, trust, team work and overcoming a challenge. The course is fully funded by the Royal Air Force (RAF) and no personal financial contribution is required. The max body weight allowed is 95kg (15st). A medical examination by your unit Medical Officer (MO) is required before attending.

Progression in the student's choice of parachuting disciplines from altitudes up to 12,000ft is made by BPA qualified skydiving instructors. Preparation for parachute instructor courses and training for the display parachutist team member qualification may also be carried out. Night and water jump programmes are conducted. Personal membership of BPA is required by individuals, everything else is funded by the RAF.
